Mattias Lanas is a Chilean-American artist globetrotting with his partner, and he is currently based in Papua New Guinea. He teaches art classes, leads field sketching trips, and works on his own art in a variety of media, including graphite, pen and ink, watercolor, oil paints, and ceramics! Mattias’ subjects of special interest are plants (botany) and insects (entomology), but he loves learning about all aspects of the natural world. When not at home working, he can be found exploring wild places, “botanizing,” and SCUBA diving.

Mattias has a background in Earth Systems from Stanford University and in Science Illustration from California State University, Monterey Bay. He works with The Foster Museum (thefoster.org) in Palo Alto, California.
