Asilomar State Beach is home to some of the most incredible tidepools on the West Coast -- bring your watercolors and sketchbook down to the water and learn more about the critters that inhabit this rocky environment! Practice quick gesture techniques, record details that can be used for identification, and observe the incredible diversity of adaptations for living between the tides. You will be encouraged to do a little bit of rock scrambling, so wear shoes that can get wet or choose to stay close to shore and observe from the edges.

Meet in front of Mott Training Center, Whitehead entrance (#3 on event map)--please find your instructor and gather to plan for carpooling or walking to the field site. Time allocation includes assembly, travel, & class time. Location: Pacific Grove area. NOTE: locations may be subject to change due to weather or other circumstances regardless of where you go, the experience will be fantastic!

  • Requirements Your sketching kit; mornings can be chilly, so dress warmly in layers; also, bring water, hat, sunscreen, walking shoes suitable for tidepooling / water, snacks (you can pre-order box-lunch to pick up after class at Mott).
